Choosing masks

Sheet, hydrogel or wash-off: choosing a Korean mask

Compare Korean mask formats by application, pack quantity and product directions, with current catalogue examples.

Sheet and gel mask formats with a ceramic clay dish on warm stone

A mask is easier to choose when you start with how you want to use it. A packet you open and unfold, a gel sheet you settle onto your face, and a texture you rinse from a jar ask for different amounts of time and attention. You do not need one of each.

Choose the format first. Then check the complete formula, the directions and the quantity you are buying. A familiar ingredient in the name does not make two products interchangeable.

For a simple packet

A sheet mask suits someone who wants a ready-to-use format without scooping a product from a jar. Check whether the listing is one mask or a pack, and whether the packet contains one step or two. An ampoule supplied separately has its own place in the instructions.

You can compare Torriden DIVE IN Mask Sheet, 10 pieces with CNP Laboratory 2-Step Propolis Energy Active Ampule Mask, five sheets. They illustrate a useful shopping distinction: pack quantity and application steps matter alongside the headline ingredient. Our guide to sheet, ampoule and wrapping masks explains those formats in more detail.

For a gel-sheet format

Look at the product image and description rather than treating every translucent mask as the same product. Face masks and under-eye patches cover different areas; a tub of patches is not a pack of full-face masks.

Abib Heartleaf Jelly, one 35g mask is a face-mask option. Dr.Ceuracle Hyal Reyouth Hydrogel Eye Mask is an eye-patch format. The word collagen or hydrogel alone is not a reason to expect a particular result. Follow the directions on the pack you receive rather than a timing rule borrowed from another mask. Abib's product information is the brand reference for its Heartleaf Jelly format.

For a texture you rinse away

A wash-off mask is a different choice if you prefer applying a cream or clay texture yourself. You will need somewhere to rinse it off. The amount and contact time belong to that particular formula.

For example, Beauty of Joseon directs users of its Ground Rice and Honey Glow Mask to apply it to clean, dry skin and rinse after 15 to 20 minutes. That is an instruction for this product, not for all rice or clay masks. Brand directions.

Before you choose

Check the format, unit quantity and current ingredient list. Read whether the product is removed, rinsed or left on. A sleeping mask is its own leave-on category; it does not mean leaving a sheet or clay mask on overnight.

Browse Hard to Find Masks and choose the format you will enjoy using. Availability and delivery remain specific to your selected destination.
